I ought to introduce myself to this community, as I've been lurking for a short while.
HerdOfTurtles is my name online, and I've only been aware of Hetalia since December of 2019. Since discovering Hetalia I've written a few works for it on ao3, mainly centring on history and the character England, but I've written for a few other characters including America, S Italy, Prussia, India, Wales, Canada, and Ireland. I plan this year to try writing a few more new characters. Reoccurring themes when I write are immortality, forgiveness, family, and guilt, and I particularly enjoy writing a psychological story, but I've been trying new story formats lately. As for ships, those that interest me are nearly always human / nation or one-sided, and haven't been brought to the centre of anything I've written yet.
That is all for me. What about others in the Hetalia Town Square? What do the artists / writers / readers here typically enjoy ?

And I'm mainly on Tumblr- so mainly reblog. But I've been getting back into writing fanfic again! I usually focus on America, Russia, India and China! So fr glad to see another India writer here HJBK. I LOVE to write about immortality (pretty sure you get it but like, the long lasting amongst a world of temporary stuff is SO !!), sci-fi, culture and traditions (another fav of mine bec I love to research lmaoo), and historical pieces!
and oooo!! Would love to hear about your human ships! Literally my fav trope in the hetalia fandom bec it's SUCH a good way to talk about the immortally of nations!

Date: 2024-01-29 06:29 pm (UTC)I'd be interested to see what you've written for China! I want to try writing Hong Kong and China at some point, but I've never found myself able to slip mentally into the space to tackle that mess of a dynamic yet. I've been reading a lot about Cixi's era lately and think it would be interesting to write that.
Also sci-fi ! I like sci-fi too, I've always thought of sc-ifi hetalia mixup but that would be such a project to take on.
For last part : my favourite human / nation ship to entertain would be England x Elizabeth I, but always with an added layer of complication because I imagine England never really knew if she loved him as a person, or loved the added sway it gave her over him as a country. They're the type of relationship I imagined began without much communication and ended the same way. I like to think the relationship started with the two working together, quietly in the same room, and one day Elizabeth I says to the silence, "you ought to marry me." And three days of England getting his thoughts together later, England finally comes back with "you're right, I should." They take that as the final word, and unto death is a bit of a problematic vow to make for an immortal, but England is too fascinated with the concept of anyone being interested in a relationship with him to think it all the way through. I also like this idea because Elisabeth I ordered the first colonies in America, so in a way, I have England thinking the American colonies are part of her legacy and dedicating an unhealthy personal attachment to keeping them.
I could write about England for hours, I should stop now. I've turned him into such a psychologically confused guy, he's such a strange mess of unhealthy attachment issues.
The other ships aren't with any historic figures, they're just with your normal every day person who lived and got left out of the history books. Particularly I've crafted a fun one for America, America gets wild west ghost adventures and unhinged hero syndrome.

Date: 2024-01-29 10:45 pm (UTC)And so fr 😠we need more!! But so true! I usually have a hard time with characterizing him! There's just so much freedom with him it's hard to choose which direction I want to go with him HBJH
Most of my China WIPS are IndChu adjacent lmaoo so I haven't had to handle any tough history...yet. But I can def understand the struggle with that ðŸ˜
Oooo!! I see!! I def understand that ship! It seems so cute omg 🥺!! And makes so much sense with his obsession with the colonies!!
REAL LMAO, He's just a confused guy like 99% of the time HJBV
And right! LMAOO, I need to get to reading that soon HJBG
